Surgilūm was announced as a finalist for the medtech industry’s premier awards program, the Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) in spring of 2015. Since the awards began in 1998, the MDEA’s mission has been “to recognize significant achievements in medical product design and engineering that improve the quality of healthcare delivery and accessibility.”

Team members attended the awards ceremony on June 9, 2015 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, NY. Surgilūm founder Dr. Alan Brown of Wilmington, NC remarked, “We may not have won an award this time, but as a young company, it was such an honor to have our first product be a finalist at this event next to products from multi-milion dollar medical industry giants. It’s every inventor, designer, and engineer’s dream to be invited to be a part of this kind of thing.”
